The above Information suggests that St George’s Church had a war Memorial for the Great War with 12 names on it.
On 20th November 1922 there was a devastating fire which total destroyed the interior of the church and the memorial was probably destroyed at this time.
Three brother Harry, Godfrey and Jack Downton gave a brass Alter cross to mark the safe return of men from military service.
The Church has an area of Remembrance for WW2 but not for WW1
