The History of War Memorial Window

in St John the Baptist Church Mamble

Inside St John the Baptist Church Mamble there are twin stained (Painted) glass lancet windows, which match the adjacent Johnson Window Memorial.(MAM3)

Figure of St Oswald, Wording below as follows:-

This window is erected to the glory of God

and the memory of the men of the Parish

who fell in the Great War of 1914-1918”.

Figure of St Alban, wording below as follows: 

“Edwin Aston July 1st 1916

Harry Davies Sept 12th 1917

Edwin Jones April 14th 1918”

It was commissioned after hostilities ended 1919.  

Benefactors included the People of the Parish and the Aston family (Colliery Managers), Davies family  (Innkeeper and Farmers) and Jones family (Farmers)
